Calvary Food Pantry

The Calvary Food Pantry CNY Inc., at the Calvary Presbyterian Church building, 90 Franklin Street in Auburn, is a significant mission of First Presbyterian Church. To contact the pantry, call 315-252-7772.

First Presbyterian Church provides significant funding monthly, and the volunteers include many of our members, who unload the delivery truck and put the food away each week and volunteer several times a month to help distribute the food. Our congregation leaves donations in the box near the stair rail in the narthex.

Each month the pantry serves more than 100 families (over 400 people), equal to at least 5,300 meals. Every month sees an increasing service level, to meet the needs of our community. A benefit barbeque was held in the summer of 2008, and rummage sales are held often. They are announced on our events page.

Every year in late November First Presbyterian has the Turkey Trot to benefit the Calvary Food Pantry.

2009 Turkey Trot results

This year First Presbyterian Church donated 185 turkeys to the Calvary Food Pantry (compared with 90 in 2006, 110 in 2007, and 168 in 2008). Members bring turkeys to the church on the last Sunday before Thanksgiving, and donate funds as well, which are used to purchase turkeys and other items as needed. This year we purchased 103 of the turkeys, as well as ingredients for broth and stuffing. In 2006 we donated 150 cans of pie filling, 150 pie crusts, 120 packages of rolls, and 96 packages of jello. In 2007 other items including stuffing mix were needed, and we donated those. For 2008 our congregation met the need for turkeys.

Thanks to all who participate, and to our Turkey Trot leader, Sue Ann Cunliffe and the First Presbyterian Deacons and Youth Group.
