Calvary Food Pantry

The Calvary Food Pantry CNY Inc., at the Calvary Presbyterian Church building in Auburn, is a significant mission of First Presbyterian Church. For information about the pantry, please visit the pantry website.

First Presbyterian Church provides significant funding monthly, and the volunteers include many of our members, who unload the delivery truck and put the food away each week and volunteer several times a month to help distribute the food. Our congregation leaves donations in the box near the stair rail in the narthex.

In 2007 we held a Food Pantry Challenge, which increased our donations of food. Progress was reported weekly on our News and Events page.

For March, 2007 Al Drennen reported Calvary Food Pantry served 115 families (388 people), equal to 5,280 meals. Every month sees a similar or higher service level, to meet the needs of our community. A benefit turkey dinner was held in May, 2007 and rummage sales are held often. They are announced on our events page.

Every year in late November First Presbyterian has the Turkey Trot to benefit the Calvary Food Pantry.

2007 Turkey Trot results

This year First Presbyterian Church donated 110 turkeys to the Calvary Food Pantry (compared with 90 in 2006). Members bring turkeys to the church on the last Sunday before Thanksgiving, and donate funds as well, which are used to purchase turkeys and other needed items. For example, in 2006 we donated 150 cans of pie filling, 150 pie crusts, 120 packages of rolls, and 96 packages of jello. In 2007 needed items included stuffing mix, and we donated those items.

Thanks to all who participate, and to our Turkey Trot leader, Sue Ann Cunliffe and the First Presbyterian Youth Group.
